Pam and I fished Wednesday afternoon from around 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Bluebonnet Ridge (the larger, downhill lake) under partly cloudy skies and 80F temps with a moderate 9MPH south wind. The water was 54F with about 3 or 4FT of viz. The lake is a little low, but not bad. Vegetation was submerged, but prevalent across the entire lake floor. We had a banner day once we found the pockets and depths where they were holding. The bass were stacked in a few areas mid-lake in 5 to 7FOW – once you could get them fired up they bit in bunches. I had 6 in a row at one point! We doubled up multiple times. Most effective lures were: underspin with paddletail, spinnerbait, lipless, and chatterbait. With the underspin/paddletail doing 90% of the damage. We landed 55 with two at 3+, one at 4+, and one absolute UNIT at 6.4 and there were very few dinks, the bulk of the catches were very spirited 2 ¼ to 3 LB chunks. Beautiful January day and a very memorable day of fishing!

Absolutely epic report. Sounds like one of those days you replay in your head all winter.

55 fish with that quality in January is outstanding, and that 6.4 is a true Bluebonnet Ridge unit. Finding them stacked mid-lake in 5–7 FOW and getting them fired up like that is the dream scenario, six in a row and multiple doubles is wild. Love hearing the underspin/paddletail dominated; that’s a classic cold-water producer when they’re grouped up.

Really appreciate the detailed conditions and pattern breakdown. Glad you and Pam had such a memorable afternoon out there, thanks for sharing, and hope the next trip is just as strong!
