Reservation Number : 45627
Property Name : Post Oak Lake
Reservation Date : 01/07/2026 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 11 LMB, nothing over 15 inches, returned 5
Lures Used : Watermelon Red Wacky Worm and Rapala Jerk Bait were productive. Nothing on surface or lipless lure.

Weather report indicated early morning “Haze” and mild temps. I attempted to arrive at day break but the heavy fog kept me (and many others) at Buc-ee’s on  I45 and Hwy 21/190 for over an hour. I did not get fishing until around 8:30AM. The fog never let up and there was not breeze at the lake. The water level was up and visibility was 1-1.5 feet. No surface grass. Air Temp was 55 when I strated and somewhere in the 70s when I stopped at 3:30PM. In addition to the fog surprise I was greeted by probably 50 or so Vultures roosting on top of the boat shelter and on the dam by the spillway. In addition, the fish feeder had just cut off and maybe a dozen large Carp we enjoying themselves. Once that settled down, I tried a buzz bait along the dam with no results. I switched to the jerk bait and caught 6 along the dam. Most right in front of the spillway. All the fish were small. The wacky worm proved productive along the bank to the bridge. And there I foul hooked a 12 incher that just swiped at a lipless bait I was throwing. I guess I could just not reach any big ones from the bank, but the small ones kept me entertained.

Thanks for the detailed report, sounds like Mother Nature made it an adventure before you ever made a cast.

Tough start with the fog delay, but it’s good to hear you were still able to put together a solid day from the bank. With the higher water, low visibility, no wind, and post-feeder activity, that jerkbait bite along the dam, especially near the spillway ,makes a lot of sense. The watermelon red wacky worm producing along the bank to the bridge is a reliable pattern in those conditions, even if the fish were on the smaller side.

The buzzbait and lipless not getting touched lines up with the lack of wind and surface activity. Still, 11 fish in those conditions isn’t bad at all, and it sounds like the steady action kept things fun despite not finding any bigger ones.

Appreciate you taking the time to share such a thorough breakdown, we value reports like this and hope your next trip lines up with clearer skies and a few bigger bites.
