Got on the lake just before 9am and fished till 5pm with a short snack break. Day was cloudy with temps from mid-40s to mid-50’s, but the cold, strong South wind kept it feeling colder all day long. As others have mentioned, a strong south wind makes this a challenging lake to navigate. Fortunately, this is where my Autoboat motor shines or else I would probably have quit REALLY early. Water was very clear and 55-57 degrees. Also mentioned by others, if there’s been recent rain, the launch area is very challenging as the rock ramp planned for Spring of this year has yet to happen. I got my Bass Raider lauched by maneuvering my truck as far to the side of the launch area away from the muddy ruts as I could where the bank was more solid. Just be careful before you back too close to the waters edge if you haven’t tested the ground first. The bite was pretty slow until I ran into what turned out to be a big school of crappie and caught a few. I spent most of the rest of the day chasing a few schools and picking of 1 or 2 here and there with the occasional bass thrown in. There were LOTS of crappie out there, but I just couldn’t get them to get really stirred up with anything. Best bait was a small underspin and I caught a few of the bass on a shad colored spinnerbait. Nothing of any size on this trip, but the small bass fought hard and it was fun to get a mixed bag. On the way out I met the landowner, and we chatted for a few minutes. I thanked him for letting us fish such a beautiful lake.
