My dad and I are making our first trip to San Saba and will be staying in the cabin. Any tips on fishing, cabin, etc would be appreciated.

fished it last of sept. the bite was slow but i caught most on a paddle tail swim bait on top of the grass and right on the edge of the grass. make sure you take two batteries so you can hook up the rear trolling motor, you going to need it. good luck!

I just returned from this weekend’s trip there. Weather and the cold front destroyed the fishing unfortunately this weekend. We discovered we were sharing the house with 3 hunters and a 7 year old once we arrived which really was no problem.
This is a beautiful property. Make sure to take whatever you plan to eat, drink, and any and all paper products you think you might need. (toilet paper for example) It’ quite the hike back to town and a dirt / rocky road the main paved road.
The lake is currently about 3 plus feet low and there is quite an abundance of surface moss. There is still plenty of water to fish. The boat works great.I always take my own battery, but he has many batteries available in the pole barn for your use. I would check the battery charge before gouing to the water although. Ken. the owner is quite helpful and accommodating.
Going in once you leave the main road, make sure not to miss the turn 119 to 117 I think as it’s not well marked. If you are traveling at night, it would be even more difficult. You cross a cattle guard at that turn if this helps.
We saw about 20 turkey in the road on the property and the hunters had sucess anyway…
Most fish were caught on a jig. This can be a very productive lake with some nice healty fish if you catch it right. These fish have to eat sometime. I think if it warms up this week, you could experience an exceptional day out there.
Best of luck to you….
