I arrived at the property just before sunrise and fished until around 1:00pm. This was my first time here, and it had very easy access from the road to the lake.
The launch was gently sloped gravel, it was easy to launch my small boat and get on the water. There is a lot of vegetation in the lake, so it was difficult to fish anything with treble hooks (which is fine!). I used mostly weedless swimbaits, worms, and did a little chatterbait, spinner bait, and a sleeper gill (a bottom/heavier swimbait). I had no trouble fishing bascially the entire lake, and navigating it with a trolling motor, so that’s just a note for people’s lure choice at this time of year.
The fish were generally along the north/east sided banks which are identifiable by the plentiful trees on those sides. The south/western banks had fewer trees/cover, and I only caught a few along that side.
Most of the fish were about 10-20 feet from the bank just above the weeds, usually when it went from around 1 foot to maybe 2-3 feet deep. The big fish were taken on the two big northern "points", and just beyond them down the long leg of the lake. Most were at a depth of 1-2 feet.
I caught my smallest bass this year, it was maybe 6 inches long (on a 4 inch lure), and the largest, a 5.7 lbs (pic). The bigger fish were around 3, 4, 4.5, and 5.7lbs, and they fought and buried in the weeds, it was a lot of fun, I broke out the net for these guys. The fish looked healthy and well-fed, and the bigger ones easily and quickly returned.
7 culls including some baby bass. There was a lot of wildlife, with a huge group of hawks, maybe around 200, circling at the edge of the lake in a pretty wide area. I've never seen so many large birds circling for so long. One had a fish on the bank and hid from the others, I got a pic but it was blurry, I need to up my camera skills.
Thank you to the landowner and to PWF for such a wonderful fishing day.
