Nix is a great lake to fish, easy to access property from the highway, automatic gate. Owners were headed out when I arrived and honked a greeting.
The lake is still about the same level, but there is a bit of a drop-off if you trailer, my trailer tips to one side then straightens, and it can cause the boat to slip off sometimes. But not really a problem to launch. I got there and sun-up, and was prepared for the the last two trips here with lures targeting above the grass and on the grass/line. It’s that time of year however, and the grass is basically just along the very bottom now. I fished them anyway a circuit around the shallow side (right) with a swimbait and swimjig, no luck. I circled my way over to the dam side and managed to catch a few. I tried the deeper water with a texas rig and landed a few. The remaining fish were taken on a crank bait, they seem to like them on this lake. I lost a nice fish (3-4 I’m gussing) with the little crank bait, messing with the trolling motor while fighting...he shook off the hooks. I’ll need to plan better next time.
All the fish were well-fed. They were just under slot or just over, except “the one that got away”.
Water is fairly clear, in most parts you can see the bottom. Like the lake write-up says, fish were found all over the lake. For worms, watermelon worked well.
