Started at dawn – temp in 60s, clear skies, clear tea-stained water. Access very easy and quick from the gate along the all weather road. Lake was about 2’ low, so launching was a little challenging but not too difficult for our 10’ plastic boat.

Caught fish instantly on topwaters for about an hour. Switched to Senkos and caught them along the shoreline and in the brush. There’s actually quite a bit of submerged timber in the lake which holds bass. Tried deeper water with a chatterbait but nothing. Found some moss along the northern shore but otherwise very little vegetation. Caught 38 in 3.5 hours of fishing and released 3 that were over 14” (barely). Hoping to find a larger one or two but no such luck. All the bass were very healthy and beautiful. Tried a little fly fishing from shore and quickly caught two on a tiny mouse lure. They were small but bent the fly rod double!

The quality of fishing will surely improve as the years go by if we continue to remove many of the small fish.

This is obviously a great lake for beginners and youngsters and for flyfishing. Catching 10 fish per hour is fun for anyone. So consider taking your spose, neighbor or a youngster who doesn’t fish. After a morning like we had thay’ll be hooked for life.
