Wife and I fished Cassidy Farms in Fairfield on Saturday the 8th. Day started fairly calm, but by midmorning it became quite windy and gusty out of the south. Lake was full, 84F, and viz at about 20 to 24 IN. This is a fun lake with good quality catches – all healthy, chunky 2.0 to 3.25 lbers. The vegetation is a challenge in that there is a lot of the black, decomposed stringy kind...so between the wind and the inefficiency of bait presentation – it was a challenging day. The sturdy, sheltered dock sure makes for a nice lunch spot. We landed 15 up to 3.2 LBS with 9 of those coming in a 1 hour bite window between 6:45 and 7:45 AM. In fact, I caught all but one of those as you had to be super precise with presentation and cadence wih the popper – they weren’t straying far from the weed edge/matted top. After that window, we managed another 6 on soft plastics – they were few and far between. Most effective baits were: topwater popper, t-rig lizzard, t-rig curly tail, and paddletail swimbait. Overall wonderful day and time out of the house – just know that the only pattern was very early in the AM calling them out of the weed edge on topwaters!
