My first impression of Minor Lake was wow this is pretty.  Just think of a miniature version of Lake O’ the Pines and that piney woods scene. My first impression of the boat ramp was not as positive. It’s a narrow opening in the brush on your right as you cross the spillway. I was thinking I’m about to sink my  truck into this lake in the middle of nowhere, but I was wrong. The Lake had a solid bottom, and I had no issues launching or trailering my boat. I have an 1875 Lund Renegade so, it’s not the biggest rig out there but I would guess larger boats could be launched without issue.

The lake, as you would expect, is tea colored like most East Texas lakes and is bigger than I was expecting. It’s bowl shaped and drops off quickly giving fish access to deep water and the entire perimeter is lined with some type of vegetation (Lily Pads, Hydrilla, etc.). Additionally, the tree line comes to the water’s edge so there is an added benefit of fallen trees, flooded brush, and shade. Long story short, there are lots of space for fish to hide and hunt.

Conditions were good, sunny day with air temps in the mid 70’s and water temp was steady at 58.5 degrees. The wind really started to blow after 10:30. Started fishing around 9:00 but had to end my day around noon so didn’t get to fish as much as originally planned but the time I did spend was productive. Caught 20 most being in the 16” – 20” range. Started with a Red Lipless crank bait and caught a few but they were on the smaller size.  I switched and started slowly swimming a Zako through the Lilly Pads and caught larger bass the rest of the day. I rigged more options to try but never took them out of the box as the bite was so steady.

Looking forward to fishing this lake again.

Did you catch most of the fish toward the bank?  I’m just wondering if there is any point spending time fishing in the middle of the lake where it is deeper.  Thanks!

Sorry just saw this reply, my trip was pretty short but the fish I caught were all shallow
