Fished solo at Little A on Monday, 6/5 from just after 6am till 8pm with about a 30 minute break for lunch. Mostly cloudy for first half of the day and intermittent rain showers had me putting on and off the rain gear. Sun came out for all the afternoon/evening and the day warmed up to mid-80’s with light winds from the N and NE. Water was very clear with 5-6’ visibility when the sun was out and varied from 80-82 degrees. Tried to get the topwater bite going, but zero interest in a frog in the thick grass flats or around the perimeter. Caught no fish in the thick grass all day. Instead I got them interested in a white buzzbait over and on the edge of the submerged grass that caught most of my fish the first half of the day. I probabaly stuck with it too long as I love to catch them that way, but only had around 12 fish by lunch time. BTW, all sizes are estimates as the first fish I tried to weigh got the low battery on the scale and it quit. Afternoon started slow and had some long lulls as I tried soft plastics. Mid-afternoon, I finally found the best pattern of the day with the 4.8” swimbait on an underspin and it caught all of my bigger fish too. Caught a few from 2.5-3.5?? and missed a few at the boat about that size too. Got the biggest of the day which was 21” and maybe close to 5lb at the end of the day. All the better fish were caught at the South end of the lake by positioning the boat at the edge of the shallow grass, casting out to deeper water, counting the swimbait down 8-12 seconds (depending on weight) and bringing it back toward the shallows. Got on a good stretch around 6:30 or so where there was a bite just about every cast doing that. What a great day catching fish! I can’t wait till the management practices start producing the size in this lake like it’s sister lakes.
The bonus picture is of the flock of buzzards that feasted all day long on an unfortunate cow.
