Bad experience

Went out to dogleg ranch in bandera tx for my first trip with pwf membership.horrible experience the winds were so strong that me and my wife could not paddle back to shore or use the trolling motor against the winds.had to leave jon boat on other side of lake and walk.all.our belongings back to boat ramp.plus had to carry my deep cycle marine battery and trolling motor all the way across the lake to where my truck was parked by boat dock.was up to calf high in mud walking with all my belongings.took me practically all day just to get all my belongings back to my truck from where me and my wife got stuck at.

Hi Jonathan – let me start by saying that I am not on staff at PWF by any means, only a satisfied member since 2015. What a “horrible, no good, very bad day” – I am very sorry to hear about your experience! I can say that everyone that has been in the club for very long (or not very long) has had a similar, or close to it, kind of day. All I can say is – at least from my perspective – if you think this club is for you; stick with it and learn from the hardship. You will be rewarded greatly. And for sure – man, the weather in the spring has caused many a calamity for club members. The way I look at it, we are outdoors in an uncontrolled environment and that is part of the challenge and fun. Anyway – not being preachy – just trying to encourage you.

This spring has been more rough than previous springs because of the wind – it happens – I’ve learned that if the wind is great than 10mph on a Jon boat, I’m going to have to tie off or anchor – I can’t really troll around.  My basic setup includes a trolling motor, battery, push pole (when I get stuck), and an oar just in case along with my anchor (I use a 35lb dumbbell so it catches ont he bottom and I don’t move).
